As the movie neared its end, a single feather drifted gently in the breeze, floating over the treetops and soaring into the sky... Everyone seemed reluctant to leave, showing no sign of wanting to disperse at all.
What left a deep impression on me was that he sat on a bench, sharing his story with strangers who didn't know him. He often mentioned three words: "Mom said..."
— Mom says life is like chocolate: you’ll never know what flavor you’re going to taste.
“Mom says you must understand: You’re just like the people around you—you’re no different from them, absolutely not.”
“Mom says, ‘I just keep reminding myself that whenever I take on a task, I must do my very best. For example, being your mom for this entire life—it’s something I couldn’t have chosen. God gave you to me, my child, and so I’ve simply had to do my utmost to be the best mother I can be. And I’ve done just that.’”
Forrest Gump was an exceptionally obedient child, and he remembered every single word that had been said to him. When Jenny called out to him to run fast, Forrest sprinted with all his might. The braces on his legs fell off one by one, and he finally broke free from the chains that had held him back, running at lightning speed. Despite his naturally low intelligence, Forrest was selected by the football team thanks to his incredible running ability and went on to attend college—and even traveled to China to play table tennis... As he ran, the first pair of magical shoes in his memory came loose, revealing his very first hidden talent: running. He kept running—first to escape, then to join the football team, and later to earn a college degree. On the battlefields of the Vietnam War, he remained true to Jenny’s words, running for his life and ultimately earning back his honor and the bonds of friendship.
Many times, just like Forrest Gump, we find ourselves unable to pinpoint a reason for doing something. Often, we fall far short of Forrest’s resilience and determination. Those tasks we undertake without really knowing why tend to be abandoned halfway through with alarming ease. Life, in many ways, is precisely like that—just like the white feather floating gently in the wind at the beginning and end of the film. Most of the time, we’re probably just drifting along with the current, adrift in a state of aimlessness, so mundane that it becomes downright tiresome. Yet, with even the slightest shift or turn, we can still take control of our own destiny. All you need to do is strive to see things through to completion, without obsessing over how much you’ve actually achieved. If you do that, you’ll find yourself soaring higher and higher. You’ll realize that the higher you climb, the closer you get to heaven. That’s why I believe Forrest Gump’s success was no mere coincidence. Although Forrest’s IQ was only 75, in him we see some of humanity’s most radiant, admirable, and precious qualities: loyalty, integrity, perseverance, and kindness. We witness his unwavering commitment to life, his unshakable hope for the future, and his steadfast belief in his convictions. Even an ordinary life can become extraordinary if we choose to live it with passion and purpose.
